    SPARK Blog — #beyoutiful

Guest Post: You are the loudest voice you hear. #beyoutiful.

Our BE YOUtiful campaign encourages everyone everywhere to reclaim the beauty and power within. We are reposting our series of inspirational blog articles with a BE YOUtiful message from previous years, to give you a chance to discover these wonderful messages again!   We're kicking off the campaign with a great one from Staci Becker, a GroupX and Spin instructor with a positive outlook.

What is the first thing you see when you look in the mirror in the morning? Is it how beautiful your eyes are, or the bags underneath them? Is it how soft your hair is, or how the grey is starting to show through? Do you see all the happy moments that have earned you those laugh lines, or do you just see wrinkles? Your first 60 seconds out of bed can set the tone for your whole day. Will you be beautiful, soft, and happy—or saggy, grey, and full of wrinkles?

You are the first and loudest voice you hear. Make that voice a positive one.

When I was 12, I was friends with the popular girls. One day after lunch, we were outside at recess and one of the girls found me on the playground. She told me the girls could no longer be friends with me because I was fat. 35 years later, I can still remember exactly where I was standing, what I was wearing, and what those words felt like. I have forgiven that girl, but still carry that moment with me as a reminder of how powerful words can be. But it’s not just the words of others. It's also the words we tell ourselves.

The sad truth is that, even now, I will sometimes tell myself that I am fat, ugly, or not good enough. I would never say those words to anyone else, but for some reason, I think it's acceptable to say them to myself. I'm pretty sure I’m not the only woman who has this horrible inner dialog, and it makes me sad.

Why do we feel the need to put ourselves down? And why do we think it’s OK?

Can you remember the last time you put yourself down? Imagine how run down you'd feel if  you had someone following you around all day putting you down? I challenge you to pay attention to your inner dialog for one entire day. Be honest with yourself and notice how many times you are positive and how often you are negative. If you are like most women, it’s not going to be pretty.

Here’s the good news: It can change. You can change. You get to choose how you talk to yourself. Be an encourager. Be a positive force for yourself and for others, too. When you are operating from a place of positivity, your cup is full and you are better able to pour into others. This can happen, but it takes intention and diligence.

Pay attention to things you love about yourself and focus on them. Write down five things you are good at, five traits you have that you love, five characteristics you were born with that make you special. Celebrate and embrace those things, and let them shine through.

Remember, you are in control of how you see yourself, how you treat yourself, and how you talk to yourself. You deserve to hear how wonderful you are every single day—even if it’s just from yourself.

One last reminder: You are the loudest voice you hear, so make it positive. Download your free BE YOUtiful poster and snap YOUR #beYOUtiful pic.  Post and share to help spread this important message!

You are fearless. You are powerful. You are worthy. #beYOUtiful

Oh, #beYOUtiful! You have blown us away with your true selves. Our #beYOUtiful campaign stresses the importance of overcoming self doubt, of listening to your innermost power girl and changing her conversation so that it remains positive and encouraging at all times. We believe that each one of you is a fearless, powerful and worthy individual—and through this campaign, we see that you believe that as well.

We see your beauty, we read your signs, and we encourage you to keep encouraging others to believe that they are #beYOUtiful, too. If you haven't read them yet, we encourage you to pour a delicious cup of coffee or tea and read through each one of our #beYOUtiful blog posts from the past few days. I am powerful. So are you. #beYOUtiful

We kicked off our annual #beYOUtiful campaign yesterday, featuring a discounted collection of Motivate Wraps. We also introduced a set of limited edition "I am..." Motivate Wraps, designed to remind you that you are #beYOUtiful. And powerful. Over the course of the campaign, we'll be featuring inspirational blog posts from some of our Ambassadors, starting with Amanda Stewart:

I am very committed to my identity as a runner.

    It's my go-to answer to:

"What do you do for fun?" Run.

"How do you stay fit?" Run.

"How do you make friends?" Run.

"How do you practice self care?" Run.

For the last ten years, I've been a runner. It's my go-to fun fact. I'm almost always training for my next race. I'm proud of the fact that I've run seven full marathons and one ultra marathon. I'm proud of the fact that I can run very, very slow for a long time.

Running is also something I share with my Grandma, who inspires me every day to be stronger and work harder than everyone else expects me to.

So it means a lot to me, but at some point, I started to realize that there might be more to fitness and strength than running. What if there was more to me than my identity as a runner?

I decided to join a Crossfit gym to find out.

What if part of me wasn't challenged by running long distances anymore? I set a goal of being able to do pull-ups unassisted. But what's left of me if I'm not a long, slow distance runner?

    Answer: That same, powerful woman.

I ran an ultra marathon in the Summer of 2017 and it broke me. It left me stripped and angsty and, truth be told, I'm still trying to get back on my feet. I'm still trying to lace up my shoes because I want to, not because I have to. And yet, when I think back to my first marathon in 2014, I think about how empowered I felt. It was a huge accomplishment and it was truly the first time that I ever felt that I was capable of achieving whatever I set my mind to. It was the first time in my life that I celebrated my body instead of hating it. It was the first time that I made decisions for me, and not for anyone else.

I could go on and on with all of the lessons that running has taught me. Running kicked off a fitness journey for me that made me feel powerful and empowered at the same time. Powerful as a woman, empowered as someone who can tackle anything she sets her mind to.

...and my Motivate Wraps have been there along this journey as additional reminders of my self worth, my sense of adventure, my persistence and my love of coffee. And now, I am so thankful for the reminder that I am powerful.

When you work to create a supportive community that encourages others to recognize and value their own unique beauty, when you educate others on what healthy actually is and how it can look different from person to person—you empower the people around you and remind every single person that every body is beautiful.

When you celebrate every body, every level of activity, and the achievement of every individual's own goals—you acknowledge that progress is more important than perfection, and that it's also an individual concept.

BE YOUtiful on National Love Your Body Day

It's here. It's finally here! Today is National Love Your Body Day and we couldn't be more excited to partner with Handful Activewear on a campaign that truly highlights what it means to love your body: Join us as we launch BE YOUtiful!

It's time to reclaim the beauty and power within you. To push back against a world that compares you, judges you and measures you against an "ideal" standard. It's time for us all to work together to create a supportive community that encourages everyone to recognize their value and their own unique beauty.

We need to educate each other on what healthy is and how it can look different from person to person. We need to support, empower and embrace each other. We need to lift each other up in a world that wants to push people down.

These past few weeks, we've been featuring inspiring women who discovered what it means to BE YOUtiful. If you missed their stories, we encourage you to revisit them. In their own words:

"There is no secret to loving yourself and your flaws. There is no magic formula. There's just kindness. Wherever you are right now, your body is good enough. Your body can do amazing things. Use positive energy to build yourself up, rather than tear yourself down." — Carleeh, @healthysocialite

"Remember, your inner dialogue controls what you believe. Don't let it pick a negative path. Instead, let it provide the grace of body acceptance. Be you, and be happy." — Jennifer, @jumpin_jen

"Stop tearing yourself down. Constantly remind yourself how amazing you are! You are a powerful human being, and you need to envelope yourself with as much EPIC self love as you can. Because then, you will BE YOUtiful." — Genevieve, @fittyfoodlicious

"I have learned to be kinder to my body. I have also learned patience because the fitness journey is a long one. Results take time—but they don't mean anything if the process doesn't make you happy." Oneisha, @shapingmybliss

"Many call me brave for letting my 'disability' show, but I don't think of it that way. I am allowing my true beauty to show because it's all BE YOUtiful. Embrace what makes you different, don't hide it. You never know who you are giving strength to." — Gelcys, @runner_unleashed

"You are the first and loudest voice you hear. Make that voice a positive one." — Staci
